My love for the natural world has always been evident, as I was fortunate enough to be connected to it from an early age. Moving to the west of Ireland introduced me to a wilderness I had never experienced before, characterized by its prominent greens and rocky terrain. I was captivated from my very first glance; the Ox Mountains felt like home, and I became fascinated by everything that thrived within them. Moss and lichen intrigued me; the woodland is covered in an earthy blanket, with lichen adorning the trees in various shades. Many native trees fill the landscape, and I’m lucky enough to witness them from my family's home, where five large ash trees stand in the background. These trees hold immense wisdom and are symbolic in Celtic mythology. One day, during a storm, one of these trees fell due to strong winds. Instead of discarding this beautiful native wood, I decided to preserve its beauty in wearable form, allowing it to live on and raise awareness about the land and this remarkable tree. Unfortunately, ash trees are declining due to a disease called ash dieback, caused by the fungus Hymenoscyphus fraxineus. This disease leads to leaf loss and crown dieback in affected trees and can ultimately result in their death. Crafting inspiring pieces that elevate awareness of the natural world by harmoniously blending native wood and silver.
